Starting 17

I have only managed to get to the Midlands friendly so haven't really seen anyone, Who has impressed and what should our starting 17 be?

That's a hard one to answer as there are so many new faces and what looks like lots of competition for most positions especially in the forwards.

I also think there will be dual reg players added to the squad - which normally means they get selected on match days.........

Yes looking at Alan Colemans interview he seemed to suggest a couple of DR are coming in, be interesting to see the squd announcement this week 

Looking forward to getting to the game on Sunday, how have Swinton looked in preseason ?

I predict a mid table and a late play off push for the lions this season with the excellent recruitment made. 

I hope so.............looks like lots of competition for places - I think the pack will be strong - so I think everything will hinge of the half backs - Newcastle have recruited well so I have read - will be a close match I think

Very tight game, certainly didn’t feel like a game of two clubs who should be pushing for the play offs. The spine of the team certainly need to improve if lions are to get to the play offs/mid table 

First competitive match for a new squad - we made too many errors in the first half and did really well to get the try. Second half we didn't dominate at all even with a reasonable amount of possession, had a couple of chance but could not score. On that performance we will do well to avoid relegation but I am sure the coaching staff will be working hard to correct the issues seen today. On a positive note I thought Andrew Badrock looked impressive, strong in defence and scored an excellent try. I also expect to see some dual reg players from St Helens appearing in the team. I think next week at Batley will be a really difficult test but each game is an opportunity

Difference is though that they would never had expected to win that game but we had the Newcastle game as winnable, agree with the Badrock comment, Baker and Rodden impressed for me. Disapointed we started with Gregson at stand off, thought our attack looked better when Olds came on, hope we sign Joe Lowe full time as well. Spedding looked expossed a couple of times for the tries, perhaps we need a winger on the wing instead of a centre. Be interesting to see if Allan now brings in some saints players 

I agree with Mark's comments - I still don't see Gregson as a stand off - I would much prefer to see him at loose forward with his ball handling skills. On paper Brogan was at loose forward but he played as if he was in the front row most of the time rather than running at the Newcastle centres.

Spedding for me is a centre not a winger.

I think there wont be any dual reg players until after Saints have played their match down under as they have taken a large squad over I believe.

Roll on Sunday and lets see how we do against a strong Batley side.
