Thank you for your contribution.

Not sure if anyone was aware but IMG actually owns a TV channel which operates exclusively on a few airlines and a lot of cruise ships. Guess which competition is not on it's schedule? The NRL has managed to find its way on though.

I think a C is generous. I'd go a weak D.
-
Shouldn't the aim be to get them playing in Fiji?
-
I don't really think that identifying with a particular county is an issue here. I wonder how many people that watched the boat race this year went to Oxbridge. How many people that watched the Ryder Cup identify with Europe? How many people identify with a driver in F1? People like a rivalry. As for people mentioning the cricket. Maybe a double header with the t20 Blast roses game at Headingley could be a good place to start.
-
I was on the fence with Wigan but looking at it with fresh eyes I think I would revise it to an A. I think a D for Leeds is fair though. It reflects how, even through mediocrity, they are so far ahead of the chasing pack.

I think people are misunderstanding my original point. I never intended for a roses match to simply come along and solve all of our problems, I just thought that things with the mid season international break couldn't get much worse, so why not try a different angle. Maybe it wouldn't work but why write it off before it's given a chance. Yes I know, it has already failed in the past but a generation has passed and maybe the long gap is just what the fixture needs to be refreshed. Or maybe not... but we won't know until we try.

But if a whole administration changes (which in 20 years I'm assumingit has), surely they can't be responsible for the failures of what has gone before them, and should be free to try previous failed ideas to put their own spin on them, without feeling that they're simply dragging up the past.
-
Mediocre mid season internationals.
-
So something that's been done a while ago should never happen again just because it's failed in the past?
-
Let's be realistic, all of what you described is exactly what we're going to get this year and the next and the next. Fine, maybe we don't do Roses but then what? Because we can't keep going down the same path and expect it to work eventually.
-
Honestly, I have no idea but I know that at the moment we keep flogging the same dead horse. Why not have a go on another horse?
-
It's not better but we haven't had a crack at Roses in a generation, whereas we've had a lot of failed mid season international attempts during that time. Thus is all about experimenting. If it doesn't go well, no harm done, just go back to the drawing board.

It's almost as if years and years of fans hurling abuse and calling into question the integrity of referees wasn't a good way of enticing people into the roles.

Sun 21st Apr: The Betfred League One Match Thread

I hate to say this but are we seeing the beginning of the end of yet another expansion club? (Cornwall) -
I tell you what. Despite a lot of the same negative responses that we get for this topic year on year, a lot more are starting to warm to the idea. Maybe, like me, people are getting really sick of the organisation of internationals and the lack of respect that they get and are desperate for any kind of change.

Genuinely thought this was going to be a rant at something followed by a resignation from the forum because 'The Game's Gone'. -
Yes but by that logic we shouldn't have anything. My point is that if we are going to try something, at least mix it up from the thing that people are getting fed up with now.
-
And how many born and bred northerners are going to pull a 'South' shirt on because they had a grandmother from Devon.
-
You end up with what we've got now.
-
Everything has to start somewhere. I know we've done WotR before but this is a new era and if we do it properly, it could be as big as SOO one day.

Nothing on here has convinced me that it isn't at least worth a punt. Like I said, maybe fans wouldn't get behind Lancashire but maybe putting the players in the spotlight rather than the teams is the way to go. Make the Yorkshire vs Lancashire the headline but really focus in on the rivalries between the players in the marketing. At the end of the day, fewer and fewer people care about internationals now so let's give a fiery match for neutral fans to enjoy.
