Looks like the old thread has dropped off the perch, so here's a new one.

Available to listen to right now, Vanilla Ice investigates the disappearance of Shergar.

And no, I'm not joking. Click the link.

I remember Derek Thompson telling that story and his role in it , including the IRA and armed police in balaclavas .  He never mentioned Vanilla Ice though

Oddest broadcasting team of the year? On Radio 4 right now, Count Binface and Barry Davies explain democracy.

This was my favourite radio team, Mike Graham and Mike " porky" Parry. This is the porky quiz, this edition about ducks. Parry tries to name the Marx brothers and comes up with Beppo and Bonio.

And a highway code quiz.

Like appearances of Halley's Comet, Kate Bush interviews are rare and widely-spaced.

But she's going to be on Radio 4's Women's Hour tomorrow (programme starts at 10am)!

I mainly listen to BBC Radio 4 Extra and Radio 3 on demand on BBC Sounds these  days, plus a range of their podcasts. Some decent ones, such as the one on Ruja Ignatove Onecoin cryptoponzy and Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics,  Counterpoint, Jazz Record Requests. Classic FM too. I have to work hard with BBC Sounds to find interesting stuff. No Radio 2, though. Occasionally listen to Naga Munchetty live on Radio 5 but NEVER Nicky Campbell and NEVER EVER Rick Edwards.

Plus I listen to local radio rugby league match commentaries,  of course.

I'm mostly on Radio 4 during the working day, but there have been a couple of increasingly disturbing tendencies in the last couple of years.

1. Intrusively close-miked voice-overs. The most unbearable of all is Josie Long on Short Cuts.

2. British folk music of the most affected, finger-in-the-ear variety. There is clearly a fan of this sort of thing high up in the station's hierarchy, because it turns up pretty much everywhere it can be shoehorned in.

I occasionally dip into Radio 3, usually whilst I’m driving. This week’s composer of the week (12:00pm til 1:00 pm) was Billy Strayhorn a name I wasn’t familiar with. He was a jazz pianist, composer and arranger who worked almost exclusively with Duke Ellington. If you get the chance have a listen, his music and arrangements for the Duke Ellington band are superb.

Radio 3 is a fair bit less talky than it used to be, but I still check the schedule before tuning in. Once bitten, etc.

It has massively improved a few dud areas in the past few years even though it remains really unsure what it is trying to do in the 9am-12noon slot despite having some good presenters in it.

It's sad to see how diminished Drama on 3 now is - capable of some superb productions but the number now so massively reduced from previous years and decades - but that's part of the whole BBC walk away from that kind of content.

I go in phases but I find Night Waves (or whatever it's called now) mostly unlistenable at the minute. That's probably just me though.

Strayhorn was legendary. Lotus Blossom, Take the A Train, A Flower is a Lovesome Thing, Satin Doll and more.

Night Waves sounds like a late-night Skinemax soft-porn serial.

Yeah, R.I.P. Jeff.

I actually liked his "Danny" character in Taxi, but the writers were probably right that everything he did could be covered by another existing cast member. Given the career boost the show gave to so many others, I can also understand him being a little sour about it.

Just been listening to Lucy Beaumont's"To Hull and back". Really funny and clearly written by someone with a lifetime's experience of Hull. 👍👍👍😀

She is quite funny on the "Meet the Richardsons" TV show she does with her husband.

This show seems to polarise opinions a bit, from what I've read.
