  1. It's almost as if years and years of fans hurling abuse and calling into question the integrity of referees wasn't a good way of enticing people into the roles.

  6. Sorry but people need to get over tee, theirs no conspiracy,no shafting,as in many many cases a SL club has cherry picked out the championship, paid a fairly hefty fee, I don't get the xfiles syndrome people have,he's a saints player, their DR with Swinton , and I'm going to be controversial maybe here but even if he came back theirs no guarantee he'd score shed loads as for me alot of his success was massively helped by having miloudi inside him ,who's of course at London, stop babbling about it and back those in the wing jerseys, all about the now,not the then

  8. Mrs WWD and I are just back from a long weekend visiting our good friends Dave-from-Donnie and Mrs Dave (Mrs WWD and Mrs Dave met at teacher training college and have been friends ever since and Dave and I have become lifelong friends too; we are all now drawing our old age pensions) We packed a lot in, including visiting the exquisite Selby Abbey (so easily overlooked in the 'shadow' of Beverley Minster and York Minster, and the great RSPB reserve at Old Moor (highlight, a marsh harrier drifting across the reserve) With Dave, I also got to my first live game yesterday since he and I saw Les Dracs beat the Wire at Wembley in 2018. It was York -v- Bradford. Some random thoughts: rugby on TV has some benefits, such as close up views of action in any part of the field, but the atmosphere of just being there takes some beating. the championship can serve up quality excitement and entertainment, as this game demonstrated, not least of all because the form book went out of the window. York's new stadium is excellent; Dave and I had a great view from the top, back row of stand EG. easy, free parking was a great bonus too. the world has moved on and old fogeys like me probably have to accept that; so, sorry that there was no printed programme and getting to the food & drink area only to discover that I could not pay with cash was a bit irksome, but hey ho! on the field, York thoroughly deserved their win; their structure and discipline never wavered. Harrison at full back was very good and must have come close to beating Harris as MOTM, though the latter deserved the award. York's last tackle kicking - especially in the first half - was very good, usually placing the ball between the defensive line immediately in front of them and the backs waiting further back. Getting the ball to bounce in that way always allows players on the side who kicked the chance to make an extra few yards, so that the first tackle is close to where the ball was caught. Why don't SL teams routinely do this? York's ability not to fade in the last fifteen minutes did them great credit. How good to see so many exciting and, in one case, rare features of our game, including an interception try and - the rarity - a drop goal added after a try. Well done to Mumby Magic for anticipating the 'banana skin'; Bradford let themselves down with a few too many errors, often unforced. If that was York with nine regulars missing, as Expatknight suggests, then, at or close to full strength, they should be able to give anybody in the championship a good game.

  9. Just got back in from the game and must say it was a very entertaining and hard fought encounter. Town eventually went down 22-32 against opposition from the League above them but should take pride in how they never gave up until the final whistle and served up some quality tries for the crowd.Number 16 ( I think Nicole Stewart ) had a fantastic game in both attack and defence and was easily the best player on either side today and I would honestly say if you have the time available make your way down to Derwent Park and give these lasses your backing and at only £5 admission it was worth every penny.

  10. Wouldnt a warm up game provide the opportunity of getting ready for the test series as opposed to going straight into tests without the team having played together?

  11. Oh please. The French rugby league barely has 2 francs to rub together. Does the NRL expect Fiji RL to organise and pay for internationals? If the RFL had any strategic gumption they'd understand it is their role to lead the development of northern hemisphere rugby league, and that it is in its own interests to do so.

  12. Agree with all the posters on here regarding Cornwall and we should be racking up the points . One thing though i think they deserve some applause for sticking at it and we should appreciate that . If it wasn`t for them and Newcastle we wouldn`t have enough fixtures in the League we are in , hats off to them for keeping going .

  13. Look, it's not that hard to understand, is it? This is posted at the start of every match thread and it is pretty clear, most people seem to grasp the point (and it has vastly reduced the number of reported posts in match threads so far this season). Please stick to discussing the match in question and do not accuse match officials of being biased or corrupt or you run the risk of being immediately banned from the forum. Get it? No one is saying refs are infallible, or that when they get a decision wrong, you can't argue the toss about it on here. Where it crosses the line is when people start saying stuff like: 'wah wah wah the ref hates my club, he never gives us anything, he's deliberately helping the other side, he's been bought and paid for, it's a plot by the RFL to do us down, wah wah wah'. There is a difference. Hope this clarifies it, for anyone who doesn't understand.

  18. With people starting to discuss mid season internationals I thought I'd reopen this wound. Surely with the ever dwindling enthusiasm for internationals in the NH, it's now worth a roll of the dice on this county game. No reliance on any other federations, the ability to market and sell tickets prior to the start of the season and a genuinely competitive fixture all put this hypothetical fixture above what we're getting this year. There's no getting around it, England are streets ahead of any other NH team. Let Wales play France annually to further the development of both of those sides. Yes I know there may be a certain amount of fan apathy especially from the Lancashire side but could fan apathy get any worse than it is? Let the abuse commence..

There was an anecdote about him and Andy Farrell being photographed together for an article or interview and Cullen suggested they got a box or something for him to stand on so the two were at the same height for the photo. Farrell's response was "you never needed anything to stand on to reach my head in your playing days!"

  24. I don't know quite where York pulled that performance from (given their recent form), but their victory over Bradford was well deserved, and a soft try let in at the death made the result look closer for the Bulls than it actually was. Great day of rugby in the sunshine at York, with the women's match against Saints going down to the wire beforehand. If you could have added Batley's catering and beer, it would have been just about the perfect day out

  25. Brilliant performance, Harrison absolutely rock steady at full back, Pemberton played the best since he signed, Tommo, well Tommo was Tommo enough said , Harris outstanding, Keinhorst top notch, I could go on, if we had played like that in the opening games we would have come away with more wins, even the mighty Trin might have been kept in check, the discipline today was far better even on the back of some very ordinary refereeing. It obviously meant a great deal to the guys out there too, great to see and against Bradford too, it doesn’t get much better than that.

  26. Absolute legend and a true professional, always well spoken and extremely positive in everything he says, his on field attributes speak for themselves. Will miss the way carrys out of his own half more effectively than any of our props, its been a pleasure to see him in red and white these last few years. As for Rovers we are apparently replacing Hall with Davis which is a great bit of business and certainly improves our speed. Been a Rovers fan it seems strange a truly world class player coming to the end of his career is leaving us for a last payday rather than the other way around, maybe a sign of how far we have come as a club (and maybe where Leeds are now as a club).

  27. As usual Rhinos fans in meltdown over this, if its a one year playing deal with a transition into a backroom job then it’s a good bit of business. We have dome good young outside backs coming through who just aren’t quite ready yet, Hall will be a good mentor. Everyone seems to be saying just play the kids, whilst ignoring the fact that we currently have a young player playing on the wing who gets all manner of stick every game.

  29. He’s had reconstructive surgery on his Jaw and Teeth which meant he had to wear a pretty big brace for a few years. Which is why it rankled me a bit when he was getting so much stick for his speech. It coincided with him getting the gig on Sky and apparently he was pretty worried about how he would speak on TV. Takes a bit of courage IMO especially as I say the amount of personal abuse hurled around on SM and the likes.

  34. I don't think the football, and the Gateshead story is a particularly valid comparison or vindication of this grading system. In football they use on field competition to determine who is promoted and off field criteria to determine their eligibility. In RL, we're moving to a system where it is a competition both on and off the field for those clubs that are uncertain of which league they will be in. I think if we'd adopted a similiar approach to football, with P&R subject to minimum standards, then there wouldn't be quite as much debate on the subject as long as implemented fairly (i.e. clubs already in have to also meet those minimum standards)

  36. Just got back and that was a good win. Our forwards haven't always dominated thus year but it looked like the plan was to take them on in a forward battle, especially after Brad went off early on. Looks like we'll need a winger for next week. Chris played most of the game with a dead leg. Few players got into the first half because Scholey n Tomposh were destroying them up the middle. Reid had his best game in a Town shirt and the Budsey break was class. Nice to watch a game that wasn't ruined by the ref. Who was it?

  37. Excelent result against Hunslet away, I still think scholey&tomposh are small for props, but they certainly make up for it in their effort in downing other bigger props. Well done both..

  40. A credit to the whole sport and good to see that he won't be lost to it. In my view, far too many are lost owing to limited opportunities. Marks out one difference between union and League....there seems to be more opportunities open to ex union players in union than to ex league players in league. 41. I agree with all the above but for me the Halifax fella is just a fan with a mike like a lot of club commentators and he doesn't have any agenda, he just got exasperated watching his team getting heavily beaten and reacted like a lot of fans on the terraces would, it was quite amusing to listen to as a neutral but I think most of us can probably relate to how he would have been feeling. Gledhill's a different kettle of fish, he tries to pretend he's a journalist as well as a club commentator but is so obviously biased it's painful, to be fair most reasonable Bradford fans seem to find him a bit embarrassing too.

  42. 5900 licences in the full region of occitanie, it says that's 78% of all licences in France so really around 7000 licences in the whole of France, but licences doesn't mean players, it includes coaches, presidents, fitness coaches, kids and kids coaches, We're even put down as a comparison to other regional sports like bull running and tambourine tennis! It's amazing how the French manage to get so many good players, considering playing numbers, especially being competitive up to u19s against the English,
